Sali Mi Amor En Vieja La Habana: I left my love in old Havana is a Cubanesque instrumental that I composed while considering the Exodus from Cuba beginning after the revolution in 1959. I have always had an affinity for Cuban music, having grown up in Haverstraw, NY where there was and is a large population of Cuban people... I remember hearing Congas playing exotic island rhythms on sweltering summer evenings as a child. I love cigars, and especially Padron cigars, and practically that whole industry fled Castro for Honduras & Nicaragua. This pensive and building melodic composition tries to capture in music the struggle of the Cuban people.

lyrics

There are no lyrics, but the Spanish Guitar speaks with a haunting melody, and interweaves with the Cuban piano, the trumpet, bass guitar in a conversation that segues from section to section, building energy thru the final climax with electric guitar. For sure this has been my most complicated composition to date, with over 70 recorded instrumental parts woven together.
